Can not update Win2000

I try to update. All goes fine until important preliminary updates
begin to install then I get:

"Some updates were not installed

The following updates were not installed:

Update for Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) 2.0 and
WinHTTP 5.1 (KB842773)
Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1"

This is an IBM ThinkPad Laptop that hasn't been used for a
while...otherwise the Win2K seems to work well.

How can I fix this? Thanks, Lee G.
