Archived from groups: microsoft>public>win95>networking (more info?)

Hello,

Does anyone know of a third party authentication client for winxp that will
allow it to authenticate against an LDAPv3 server over SSL?

We have a heterogeneous scientific environment with everything from dos
machines to winxp and non-windows systems. Currently the more recent
windows-based systems authenticate off of a domain controller. Our research
indicates that in order for the older systems (win9x, etc.) to authenticate
off of this system the domain controller must be hobbled (disable SMB
signing, disable NTLM v2, etc.). We're thinking of replacing the domain
controller with an LDAPv3 server and are trying to find any client
applications that will allow any of the windows machines (at least win9x and
up) to authentication to the LDAPv3 server over SSL (and forced auth in win3x
and DOS if reasonably possible). Our google searches have not found anything
promising so far.

Any suggestions or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
