Is the CD-ROM on your laptop bootable?

If so, I've done this once. I made up a bootable CD which came up thinking
it was A: then installed from the WinME CD-ROM.

No, I don't remember how I made the bootable CD as this was quite some time
ago. I *think* I got the install ISO from
http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm and, perhaps, even the information on
how to make the correct bootable CD.

I downloaded and it requires a floppy which I don't have.

Go into the BIOS setup, find "Boot Sequence" and make sure
it is set to "CD, C:". If it isn't, change it and save the new settings.
Then insert the Windows ME CD and restart the computer. If this
doesn't help, please repost with more information, including the
manufacturer and model of the laptop.

Isn't the floppy indispensable for ME despite the boot sequence and couldn't
a floppy be installed on a laptop? (Just a thought).

There are a set of ISO images available here
http://www.answersthatwork.com/Downright_pages/Boot_CD_and_Boot_Disk_I...es_and_
(I haven't tested that particular one, but it looks OK)

What happened was I had to activate the partition, which I'd never heard of
unless i downloaded The Ultimate Boot CD and another, Boot 98se CD. After
that I was able to install 98se, then used my upgrade to ME cd, thanks all.

It is good to see you got sorted out successfully, Piedmont.
Didn't realize myself this was possible.
This group is still the best.

Harry.

Ah - you obviously wiped the drive, and used fdisk to create new partitions?
The option to 'make active' is present there - it's just not obvious
if you didn't use FDISK - what did you use to create the partition in the
first place?
