Oh my heavens, thank you so much for this fix! I got this error message also
after I uninstalled IE 7. How do you folks find something like this? I'm
amazed. Thank you again.

I found this while searching for an answer to this problem. I was
experiencing the 501 error also.
Go into Iternet Options>Security tab and click the Custom Level
button.
Under miscellaneous there is a heading "Navigate sub frames accross
different domains". This has to be set as "Enable". Change it for
the Internet and Trusted sites. Now you can format fonts.

I don't have a 501 error message but I do have a problem not being able to
use font color with email messages. Highlighting words and selecting a color
change does not work. Using Format Font to change color does not work,
although the sample box in the Format dialog box does show the font with
color. I can change font style and font size.
Other things that do not work are: Format > Apply background color and
Format > Apply Stationery (when I try this option, the font will change, but
I get no background pattern or color).
My computer is new, XP Media Center 2005 PC, but the manufacturer will not
help with software issues even though they sold me the computer with the
software installed. Microsoft also won't help unless I pay them for service
fees. I had IE 6 when I purchased and now have IE 7 installed. I had the
same problem with both versions. I have O.E. 6.00.2900.2180.
I was excited to finally find this section of messages as I have searched
for answers since I purchased this computer, yet the solution for others does
not help me. Is there any other fixes I could try. I would be most
grateful.

Can you see different colors in HTML mail that is sent to you. Try
composing a new message from Message | New Message Using | No stationery and
then click in the window and see if you can format the background color or
change the text color that way.
Can you change text size? If not, then also check that you don't have any
settings in Accessibility that might affect things.
Also try going to Windows Update and get the latest updates and see if that
makes any difference.

I have updated the latest Windows updates. This did not solve the problem.
I can change text size. I can change text style.
In email messages sent to me, I can see blue text for links, and I can see
color in any advertisements sent to me. I don't get colored text from
personal email messages though. I don't know whether anyone has tried to
send me email with colored text.
I tried the route you suggested through composing a new message and that
also didn't work. I really appreciate all the help you give people. I hope
something will work one of these day.

Wow!
Who are these guys!
Thanks Mike. I tried the Control Panel option first and it solved all the
problems I was having - text color, stationery, and background color. I
never cease to me awed by the knowledge some people have. Thanks for sharing.

You are welcome.
No matter what problem you have, you probably aren't the first person to
have it. We learn from others and pass on the knowledge.
