Hi,
I'm out of ideas and hope someone on the forum can help. When I try
to eject my USB flash drive using the "Unplug or Eject Hardware"
wizard the system gives a message: The device'Generic volume'cannot be
stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later. This is a
usually behavior and I have exited programs using USB disk. How do I
eject a USB device? Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you!

You may try the software removable storage guard. It has a powerful
function of ejecting.

I would guess that you've already looked through the Knowledge Base
including "General USB Troubleshooting in Windows 98, Windows 98 Second
Edition, and Windows Me"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q263218

I suppose that a previous application may not have completely released it.
However, although I don't have an answer, only a couple of suggestions. I
wonder if the same problem occurs if you don't actually access your flash
drive. In other words, if you 'just plug it in' - wait a few moments - then
attempt to "Unplug or Eject Hardware", do you still get the message?

If possible, can you try it with an empty (clean) flash drive (i.e. no data
on it)?

Unfortunately, WinMe does have a bit of a poor reputation for the
enumeration of USB devices.
