driver for flash drive pen

Having difficulty finding driver for vgi 1gb flash pen drive if anyone has
downloaded vgi driver for win98se would you let me know working well with
winxp but want to move data and video clips to another computer using win
98se This pen drive was bought in Canada. Have gone on to site they name
for driver www.valgear.com and can get a download driver name PD1-SK6201.RAR
when downloaded file will not open up like a exe file will. I'm completly
googled please help if anyone understands what is wrong

You need an app that opens .RAR files. Winrar is one. Google for .RAR
file opener, and you should get several choices.

RAR is an archive filetype, like ZIP. WinZip and several other archiving
applications will open RAR files. What you do is extract the files within,
to see what you've got and for Windows to use them.

Either of these apps will open RAR files, which are a compressed file similar to a
ZIP file:

XAce Plus:

WinRar:
http://www.rarlab.com/

I use the free XAce Plus.

Let us know if the driver works once you get it unpacked and installed. If not,
there is an unofficial universal driver for Win98SE that I have had very good luck
using on a number of systems.

Winzip doesn't open RAR files, at least not up to the version I currently use:
WinZip 9.0 SR-1

I use XAce Plus for RAR files.

these years? (Can't find a RAR file.)

ConversionsPlus, which I have installed due to the number of Mac files I
need to mess with? (OK, I'll make a new txt file, rename it to test.rar and
see what I can do with it. Nuthin'!) No, not that either.

I'm stumped.

That doesn't allow one to package in .RAR format but you can use it to open
them.

To the OP: Just a guess but it'd be my guess that any USB drivers for 98
should do the trick and, unfortunately, 98 doesn't come with any USB drivers
on its own if I recall correctly? I think they either came with ME or 98se
first. Poking around various driver sites (driverguide.com for instance)
should find your USB drivers and enable you to use the thumb-drive which
would (should?) appear just as another drive in windows explorer without any
fanfare. Hmm... Maybe I need to load up a 98 VM one of these days to see how
much I've forgotten?

Thank ya Glen. I've got it downloading and will probably end up losing it
BUT I did change the name to 98se_usb_drivers_for_thumbdrive.exe so
hopefully a search will reveal it on the day when I find I actually need
such a critter. If I could find my old MSDN 98 CD I'd install 98 (not SE)
but such appears to have gone missing. I'm sure I have a few versions around
here somewhere though. (Today's fun was installing Ubuntu under VPC 2007
beta... *sigh at network*)

The driver? Unknown - not tested yet.
Ubuntu? Yes. With a lot of modification. *sigh* Even sound works.
The network? Yes and no... *sighs* It sees the network, I can even get stuff
off the network.

I suppose it defeats the purpose but eventually I kicked it in the whosits
and made it let me login as root so that I could edit the configuration
files. Now I remember why I switched to Windows. Wink

Well, let us/me know if it does work, its been repeatedly recommended (the
driver) with some stating success and others never responding. Just curious
really; another, "well it works for this one" for the records.

sucessful/usable? Again, just curious.

That's one I haven't tried yet (Ubunta), I have noticed several people
stating they like it on here,, thought I might play around with it in the
future, though wasn't there some problems with the debian package database
on which it was based?

Well, what you do in Windows is somewhat the same in others, just a lot
more gui it seems. But then if your Ubuntuing AND VPCing, your well versed
with that (or will be by the time your done <grin>).

Let's see.....I've installed the "native usb driver" for 98SE on four of my own
systems and two at work. The two at work are nearly identical Dells, so that might
only count as one. The home systems are one old Dell and the rest are generic. It
works for me using a Memorex 1GB Traveldrive (Memorex has a 98SE driver for
download, but I have never gotten it to install correctly, let alone work, and there
is much online about others with the same issue). It also works on all those
systems with a Creative Muvo TX 128MB mp3 player which doubles as a memory stick.
(The Muvo driver works great, but I uninstalled it to test the "native" driver).

The driver also works on these systems and a couple of others owned by a friend,
with a PNY 1GB memory stick. I have another 1GB memory stick whose innards are made
by ChipsBnk, and it works with the driver on all the systems I mentioned. I have
installed the driver on maybe half a dozen other client's systems so I can bring
cleaning tools with me on a memory stick, and it has worked on all those systems so
far, with the Memorex and the ChipsBnk sticks.

That's the extent of my personal use with the driver. There are a number of
'success stories" online, as you have discovered.

I've had no issues with it, the sound is a nice feature but 16 bit sound is
pretty lousy. Oddly Ubuntu has decided all of my media files aren't media
files and thus will not play them. It works fine when it is booted to an
install partition. I own a web hosting company so (yes we offer mostly Linux
hosting options) I do a lot of testing. In all honesty I wouldn't go back to
using *NIX/NUX on a regular basis for regular computing if you paid me. I
can't stand it. I want it to work, I want it to work well, and I don't want
to have to configure it for hours on end just to get a program to function
properly.

But I digress and this is way off topic. Such is my nature I suppose...

With the topic to hand, the original, I'd not have to worry about testing
the driver though if you really would like I will. 'Tis a non-issue. Glen
recommended it, that means it works. If it doesn't then I'm missing
something and I'll make it work. *grins* It gives me another reason to play
around in VPC2k7... (My reply email address works well enough if you want to
take it off-list. I'm not scared, I use a real reply-to address. Err...
Either that or I'm retarded. I get a lot of SPAM filters eat the vast
majority though.)

VPC 2007 is nice. The 2004 version is nice too though there are a bunch of
options in 2007 that I really like - the most important being sound. It
seems really light though I have noticed some nasty spells where it eats the
compute cycles something fierce when it tries to access an optical drive,
HDD - mounted, and even during the initial networking. They layout is slick
and simple and the wizards guide you through the majority of the setups. I'm
not sure if I'm willing to give up on VMware completely at this point but
for home-use I'd certainly recommend it. With the price as it is, well, I'd
be silly to not recommend it even with the CPU cycling but I'd like to see
that go the way of the dinosaur prior to the final release.

Not necessary, your like me I suppose, I have dozens of drivers/fixes and
saved info sitting around waiting for potential use. Will I ever need them,
who knows...

Perhaps the cycling will be gone, seems to be constantly under
"construction"...
as for the home use issues of VPC (and VMware): IMO, This will likely be
the only way for use of older OSs in the not so distant future, for people
who need to, and those that like to play around. Perhaps even for those
businesses that still need legacy support. At least that's how I see it,
with the board, processor, drive, and chipset changes anyway.

Have opened up driver download with win-zip and winrar got the same result a
mass of pages. With computer talk(x.,#) Normally you would get a few files
from the download and move them to c:\temp on your computer. Is this right?
Pen drive still will not work or recognize the driver download. I think I'm
being given the wrong driver I have a VGI 1GB 2.0 USB FLASH PEN DRIVE and
I'm being given driver for require WIN98 Driver for GXT PD1 Pen Drive both
are VGI PEN DRIVES have asked customer service if driver is for both Pen
drives, as yet no reply. Driver download is Name PD1-SK6201.RAR Type
winrar archive 3.5mb

What I see in that RAR file is a whole Setup program for the USB stick. You
extract the entire mess using WinRAR, to a new folder named PD1-SK6201.
There will be another folder with the same name nested inside that new
folder after you're done. Inside that folder is SETUP.EXE. You want to run
that. Now, whether or not that set of drivers will work for your product I
don't know. It's up to you to try it out.

I should add that I looked up *your* pen drive at various sales sites, and
everywhere the minimum specs say Win ME, 2000 or XP. Win98/98SE is not
supported. It may very well be that the only drivers for that device are
those that are included with the previously mentioned OSes and that you're
SOL when it comes to using it with Win98SE.
