cached user details

I was wandering where the user details are cached in XP which allows
the user to log onto the workstation / laptop if it was disconnected
from the domain

I come from a novell background but we are migrating to AD - in novell
a local user account gets created by a DLU policy. I was wandering how
this worked in AD?

I understand you can set policies to cached the last x user details
but would loike to know where this is cached on the local workstation
