Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsme>multimedia (more info?)

I have Windows ME running on my PC. I recently installed Windows XP. I
then uninstalled it because it was causing problems with some of my other
components. After reverting back to the original Windows ME configuration
everything was fine except that the Windows Media Player would not work.

When I attempt to re-install Windows Media Player 9 it goes through the
whole installation process then gives this message:

Cannot Complete Windows Media Player 9 Series Setup
It was not possible to complete setup.

There is no error code.

It just says to attempt the installation again. I have not been able to
find a solution for this on the microsoft support and knowledge base
website or anywhere else.

Any ideas on how I can get Windows Media Player working again on my PC ?

Many thanks.

In the file
c:\windows\wmsetup.log
, which lines contain "ERROR: "? Those should indicate (to me at least) the
possible source of the error... =)

I know this topic is extremely old but i found it with google.

Anyways i too am experiencing problems similar to Lynwood. Just replace ME with XP and XP with Vista. And replace WMP 9 with WMP 10.

Basically when i try to install WMP 10 it display the same thing at the end. Saying if you want windows update, run windows media player 10 setup again. Which does absolutely nothing different.

ERROR: Package 'WMSETUP10'. Result: 0x80070005.
