I'm running windows/xp sp3 and IE6 6.0.2900.5512. I'm considering upgrading
to IE8, primarily due to security concerns.
1. Will my computer truly be more secure with ie8 than with ie6? I keep up
to date on all MS updates.
2. Does ie8 run on windows/xp?
3. I'm already memory-constrained. Will that be even more of a problem with
ie8?
4. I'm already processor-constrained: intel 2.something pentium. Will that
be even more of a problem with ie8.
5. Will I be able to revert to ie6 if I install ie8 and find it unacceptable?
TIA,
Phil |

Yes, Yes, Shouldn't be, No, Yes.
Those with IE7- and/or IE8-specific questions or comments can post to and
seek support in IE General newsgroup:
microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general
On the web:

I doubt it. M$ has been sending us updates for the past 10 years for XP
and still it is not secure. So the answer is NO.

YES

Most probaly but if you have 512 MB of RAM then you should be OK unless
you use lots of applications at the same time.

YES. Minimum is P III.

I personally recommend upgrading to IE8 because of the speed, security and
compatibility improvements of IE8 over previous versions. It is possible to
revert back to older versions so it's not like you are taking a major risk.
With Compatibility Mode able to display sites as they would in earlier
versions, along with a lot of other new features, there isn't much reason to
hold back.
Hope that helps,

Have you thought of buying a better PC which can run latest OS? And
please leave Pig-Bear alone; he has enough on his plate to deal with at

I agree that IE 8 is good for speed, security and compatibility but the way
MS set up the Favorites is terrible. Actually
more than terrible. It causes big headaches. I have built my file cabinet
built for my favorites so when I want to
save something I can do the drawer and then to the folder with just a couple
of clicks. With IE I have to see "EVERY FOLDER" I have created and end up
going up and down the VERY LONG LIST to find the folder I want to store it
in. It drives me crazy and if I've got a lot to do very grouchy. Why did
MS design it this way? I'd like to get my
hands around the person who did this. Do you think they might change it to
a more user friendly version, like in
IE 6 ????
Thanks!

Robear has <plonk>ed you. He can't see your posts. I am afraid your English

also your web site is not an endorsement of your skills level.

I recently upgraded my IE6 to IE8 but completely removed the add ons
and favorites so it will appear like IE6...and its pretty neat , What
I only want from IE8 is tabbed browsing...
and so far is running well since I installed it and seems to be faster
than IE6 during loading...Still have noticed anything strange......but
I still have my firefox 3.5 as my default while I watch how this IE8
for some time...If IE8 is better then it will be my default....

Yes IE6 is also not supported by Google, UTube, Facebook etc. They are
all moving forward with time.
