|
Hello, this is my first post....so here goes,
Operating Systems: Windows 98 SE
Internet Explorer 6 SP1
I am having trouble updating windows. When I chose the updates I want and try to download, internet explorer locks up.
I cannot update norton either. Samething happens.
When clicking on a link someone sends me, a minimized box appears but then locks up.
I have run Trend Micro antivirus and removed all viruses but this still keeps happening.
I need help.
Thanks

Here are some links that MS MVP Robear Dyer (PA Bear) often posts, which may be
applicable to your problem:
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm
http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm

Use CWShredder, the CoolWeb removal tool, available here:
http://aumha.org/downloads/cwshredder.exe
Close all browser windows and open apps, start CWShredder and click the Fix button.
In addition, install Ad-Aware SE free Personal Edition, start it, click its 'Check
for Updates' link in the app to install updates, then use it to scan your system,
and remove what it finds.

May try this or at least check it . Go to IE properties
On General page click "Settings" button.
Lower half of page... "Temporary Internet files folder" run the slidder to
max settings.
This has helped me in the past.

You had a virus(s) & removed them? Better go to the Trend Micro site &
see whether they post additional measures for you to perform. If the
virus had delivered it's payload, the damage won't be reversed simply by
removing the virus. Also, yes, try some of the URLs Bear refuses to
post.

never mind (I have a stuffed nose anyway)... BUT, from now on you'd
better just NOTE instead of NB on me! Colorado told me what that meant!

favorite step by step helpscreens suggest a corruption of dial up networking
for this error, possibly as a left over from the viral repair
and a probable solution by remove and reinstalling dial up networking
