Damn Java Update 6, and again 7!

They both slow my IE6 to a crawl, when opening new IE windows.
It took 25 seconds just to get Google (set as homepage) to open up with the Java
Update 7 installed, (down from 2 minutes with the version 6 Java update, which
has since been uninstalled before putting in 7). Going from webpage to webpage
is OK as long as a new one isn't opened up in a separate window.

My machine is 350 Mhz, so maybe my results just wouldn't be noticeable on a
machine that runs 10X that fast (10% of 25 seconds is 2.5 seconds).

I'm gonna have to uninstall this Java Update 7 bloatware that overloads Explorer
for way too damn long.

Or you don't mind Trojans such as the Vundo which are actively exploiting the
vulnerabilities in the older and vulnerable versions.

Where does it say that the old version 1.5.0_06 is vulnerable to Trojans such as Vundo?
Bug fixing is the reason for the update, not vulnerability - as you sem to indicate!

That specific update - no, it is NOT vulnerable and that's a good point.

That is exactly what David is suggesting; To remove the old version
(because it is likely to be buggy) and install the new version.

You seem to have misunderstood his message.

[Please note that this thread dates from 25 May *2006* and was about JRE
v1.6.0_07, not JRE v1.7.x. The most recent JRE version is v1.6.0_14. See
