The volume control is no longer in the taskbar as well not on startup.

I see the SoundMax Digital Audio is the device for Audio within Sounds &
Multimedia.

The area to check mark is greyed out to show on taskbar?

Try reinstalling your audio drivers. Do this by booting to Safe Mode,
deleting the audio driver related entries from the Device Manager and then
boot back into normal mode, let Win Me redetect your hardware and install
the necessary drivers.

Mike, there wasnt anything to delete under Audio Devices. Couldnt expand.

Are you referring to codecs? when you mentioned drivers.

If there was nothing to delete that suggests you either have no sound card
or that it has no drivers installed in which case you should be looking at
a great big yellow query mark.

> Are you referring to codecs? when you mentioned drivers.

No. When I say audio drivers that, surprising as it may seem, is what I
am referring to. If you don't know the hardware involved grab yourself a
copy of Everest (www.lavalys.com) and start learning. <vbg> You' find
what you need to know in PCI/PnP Audio in the section Multimedia.

Well I would agree but thats the case.

When I restart and look under the Audio device its the SoundMax Digital Audio.

MMM... now there is nothing under the playback under Audio.

Now what ...?

I see the Audio for SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio under devices it says
its working properly.

So, what happened when you deleted the "SoundMax Digital Audio" entry from
Dev.Man in Safe Mode and then rebooted back in to normal mode? Have you
tried re-installing your drivers? I would normally have suggested that
you use system restore to roll your system back to before this problem
started but am aware that system restore is also toasted on your system.

Well I did not remove any items in safe mode.

When I restarted I looked under Preferred device and there was nothing.

I played a music player and looked once more into this Sounds & Multimedia
and now the SoundMax Digital Audio is there under Preferred Device, although,

there is no option for Volume or Advanced.

When I look under Accessories

entertainment ... the volume control does not load.

Thanks for your assistance in helping me resolve this, Mike.

Sean,

May I ask why you have chosen not to remove the Soundmax Digital Audio
entry in the Device Manager? I can't help but wonder whether you want to
solve the problem or not. You clearly have driver problems but seem to be
resisting every suggestion I make to try and fix the problem.

Mike, like I just explained, when I went into safe mode there was nothing to
remove under the audio device like your comments suggest.

OK, this is sometimes the case with older motherboards with built in sound
chips. What happens if you try removing the device in normal mode? What
happens if you try updating or reinstalling the drivers?

Ill try in normal mode.

When I went to see if there were driver updates or a problem, it basically
said that the file I was trying to load was older than the one already
installed.

What I see happening here is I have no volume control.

I notice the icon on the taskbar isnt there nor is it loading on startup.
Cannot check mark (show vol. on taskbar)... its greyed out.
Try to run the Volume Control from the entertainment ... accessories but nada.

Not too sure how this occured, however, hopefully this works out.

Issue is resolved.

Mike, your right, I should have looked a little closer to what you wrote.

I went into Sounds & Multimedia within Safe Mode instead of System > Device
Manager t o remove SOundMax Digital Audio.

When it restarted the PCI Multimedia tried to load and eventually I upgraded
back to the SoundMax and the Volume Control is now in place.

Thank you once more for your advice and patience.

Sean,

Thanks for the feedback and well done in finding a way to fix your
problem.

BTW there is a solution to your not being able to boot to DOS using a
floppy to remove the _RESTORE folder but will leave it to Noel to tell you
what you need to know (I've e-mailed him the details).

Cheers,

to my Media Player - Tool - Options - Devices - Devices Audio CD ( MSmile -
properties and select Audio Analog Then I could hear music through the front
headphone outlet. I get Error ID = OXCOOD11BA Condition ID = OXOOOOOOOO. I
need step by step instructions if you would please. Thank You !
