I am trying to install Win95 on a pc that has been working without any
problems for several years. Now, at startup, I get a message to insert
bootable media in the appropriate drive. Fortunately, I do have the
originial 95 boot disk, and win95 cd (original for new pc's). When I type in
"setup", I get the message: "Cannot create a temporary directory. If you
have HPFS or NTFS installed on your hard drive, you will need to create an
MS-DOS boot partition to start up windows." Please walk me through this
problem in as easy of instructions as possible, since I have very little
knowledge of DOS, programming, etc. In other words, what is the easiest
way to create a temporary directory and boot partition? BTW, Fdisk says
there are no fixed disks found! |

I suspect that your hard drive may have conked out! But not necessarily
so...
If fdisk finds no drives then check to see if the drive is properly
recognized in the BIOS. The hard disk MUST be properly recognized in
the BIOS before you can do anything else. If the BIOS is not aware of
the disk open the computer case and make sure that all the cables are
properly seated unplug and replug them to be sure. Make sure that the
drive has a power supply cable going to it!
