I just installed terminal services and remote desktop web connection on
a Windows 2003 server and remote. When I go to my client running
Windows XP/SP2 it gives me this error in IE:

VBScript: Remote Desktop Connection
Remote Desktop Web Connection ActiveX control could not be installed. A
connection cannot be made without a working installed version of the
control. Please contact the server administrator.

I've put the url in trusted site and disabled the pop-up blocker.
I have another terminal server/remote desktop web connection running on
Window 2000 server, and that prompts me to download ActiveX control.

Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

I had this problem with one of my computers. After a LONG struggle,
I found the cause, in my case, was this: In the /tsweb/default.htm
source, the CLSID for the activex client app was
"7584c670-2274-4efb-b00b-d6aaba6d3850". I searched my registry and
found a leftover key with the same ID and deleted it. That did the
trick.

The above solution did not work for me.

The following did:

Download and install the RD Web Connection software from: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=44333

Then manually extract the files from C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\TSWeb\msrdp.cab into the folder C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\PLUGINS

Ster, you solution worked for me, thanks mate. I had to delete a few keys from the current users tree in the registry.

I had the same problem. I'm actually a MAC user but I needed Windows remote desktop for my work (installed virtually on my MacBook). Getting the same "remote desktop web connection activex-control could not be installed." when I tried to access my company remote desktop.

Tried every possible advice from IT guys, friends and the web but found the following site to be most helpful and easiest. All done in less than two minutes. Just follow the advice and instruction. Good luck.
