New Monitor-Display Problem

I use to get on my grand-daughter for using the term totally constantly,
now I have found a use for it. I TOTALLY GIVE UP.

I purchased a new 19 inch LED Widescreen Monitor. A CD Came with it, but
all it contains is the operating manual in 8 different languages, no
drivers. It is a Emprex Brand, Model LM 1902, description-19 inch TFT LED
Monitor.

I hooked up the new monitor and found there is a 1 3/8 inch black area to
the left and right of the display which is perfectly centered. The display
fits the height of the screen which is 10 inches, but as I described, the
width is 2 3/4 too narrow, 1 3/8 inches on each side.

My computer, running Windows ME, utilizes a Intel 82810 Graphics
Controller. I set the resolution to every setting available and I just get
larger and smaller fonts and Icons, the window remains the exact same size.

I downloaded the latest available driver from Intel, with no avail, same
thing.

Any clues how to widen the display so it fills the entire screen width,
which is 16 inches. As I said before the windows fills the height of 10
inches, it is just the width that needs expanding.

You shouldn't need drivers for your new monitor but rather for your
graphics chip. Check the documentation that came with the monitor, it is
possible that you can increase the size of the image but this is more
often a feature of CRT than LED monitors.

Check that you have the latest Win Me compatible drivers for your Intel
82810 graphics chip. You should be able to find these on the Intel site.
Even then it is possible that the 82810 does not support the resolution
required for your monitor.

The native resolution of your monitor is 1440 x 900 and unless your
graphics driver supports this resolution you are going to see black bands
on either side of the image. The problem is not an operating system
problem but rather one of having drivers able to output the required
screen resolution.

There should be a "Menu" button of some sort on the monitor itself. From
there, you should have the option to adjust a number of display settings to
include: brightness, contrast, color hue, horizontal and vertical postition
and most of all, horizontal and vertical SIZE. My monitor had the same
thing on the left and right borders when first set up. A quick adjustment
from the menu of options fixed it......no need for drivers, etc. , I am
using the generic Windows driver.

Put the CD you got with the monitor in the CDROM. Right click/Explore
it, not double click on it. You should find all kinds of useful things
there. OR, you could read the manual that is also there and it will tell
you what to install and how to configure your monitor.

I did all you said already. The only thing on the CD is the operating
manual in 8 languages and the manual does not address this problem, I have
read it about 50 times with no avail.

For the monitor however you are using a graphics adapter and driver that
is outputting the necessary number of pixels in both dimensions to fill
the screen. If the poster is seeing large black bars to either side of
the image and he is using a 16:10 wide screen monitor I suspect the
problem is that the graphics adapter is not set to output the correct
screen resolution which in his case is 1440 x 900.

Interestingly I've just checked the graphics adapter on this box (an ATI
9200) and it doesn't have the ability to output 1440 x 960. Strike that,
even viewing all resolutions I don't think it will show wide screen
resolutions as I'm using a 4:3 monitor.

I don't think I was really correcting anything in your post just trying to
explain that the resolution was more controlled by the graphics card and
its driver than the monitor and its driver although having said that the
monitor does feed back the resolutions it is capable of supporting.

Good to see you still around. Like yourself perhaps I am looking in here
less and less most often whilst killing time waiting for some other job to
complete.

Thanks for the rep, Mike. This is still my favorite place to
visit......even throw a few words in, now and then. Looks like Roy was able
to resolve the issue in the monitor's Menu, after all. (see "Thanks, I got
it")
The Me group is responsible for a vast majority of what little expertise I
have with a "confuser".........this box I built, with XP, has been running
like a champ.....haven't even had the need for SR, plus, I have a number of
complete disc mirrors for backup. With a half a Terabyte of storage, I have
plenty of room <g>. (and she runs cool with pretty blue lights!)

H,

It's so good to read that all is well in the land of the red hot chillies
and that your new box is running so sweetly. As for half a Terabyte
meaning you have plenty of room you just haven't seen the junk I have
accumulated on my systems here. I've just totalled the storage on my
three main boxes and its quite obscene as it is approaching 2TB and I've
also got a 1TB network attached storage (NAS) box that runs as RAID5
giving around 750GB for backup storage. Now just where did I leave a copy
of that file? <vbg> At least I have no excuse for not backing up my data.

You need to switch it from native display to widescreen
this can be done by selecting native from the menu
and then select widescreen
i have one of theese monitors and all my applications work fine displaying on the whole screen

i am running vista ultimate
with an nvidia 7600gs with no problems at all
