Hi,

I have a PC that I wanted to do a full re-installation of ME. I did fdisk
and format. Then I rebooted the PC with the ME disk and went to start windows
with CD-ROM support. This did not get me the normal set up procedure screen,
so I typed e:setup. It went into scandisk and reported nothing was wrong and
left me with a e: prompt and a message saying that "Windows setup requires
15328640 bytes available on my c: drive". Can someone give me a few pointers
as I have no clue how to proceed from here? Thanks for the help in advance.

Johnny

How big is your hard disk, or rather the partition to which you are trying
to install Win Me? I ask as the message you are seeing could possible be
the result of attempting to install Win Me to a large empty partition,
possibly >64GB and setup may not be able to handle the resulting large
integer for the free space. A problem that I know can cause false error
message in other areas.

Hi Mike,

I checked my partitions and it is as follows: 1. 6997 (NTFS). 2. 7585 (Ext
Dos). 3. 8. Does this help?

Thanks

Johnny

Johnny,

Well you've solved the problem. Win Me won't install on an NTFS partition
it has to be either FAT (FAT16) or FAT32.

Hi Mike,

Thanks. I see the problem now. The hard drive was one that used to have XP
installed on it. I guess the next question is how to convert the NTFS back to
FAT16 or FAT32?

Thanks again.

Johnny,

You stated in your first post that you had fdisked and formatted the
drive. Do this again but this time use a Win Me boot floppy, run fdisk,
click Y for large disk support when asked and the partitions will be
formatted as FAT32.

See also Microsoft Knowledge Base article 255867 - "How to Use the Fdisk
Tool and the Format Tool to Partition or Repartition a Hard Disk"
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=255867) as well as the file
CLEANHD.TXT which is in the Win 9x folder on the Win Me CD and also as
KB271673 - "Windows Millennium Edition Cleanhd.txt File Contents"
