So, the first thing I would try would be to reinstall the old
harddrive that you removed. You imply that Windows worked OK with this
harddrive installed, so maybe it will work OK now if you have not
changed too much.

In Safe Mode, you can copy anything from the harddrive to a floppy
disk. So copy off, whatever you cannot afford to lose. If a floppy is
not big enough, you can compress files using WinZip (or whatever
program you have installed), or you can split files into pieces. I
have used a file-splitter that is produced by JoneSoft.
I wonder, however, why you say "I really need the programs in the pc".
In general, people need the data but not the programs. They need
address lists and spreadsheets and documents, but not the actual
programs. You probably have the programs on floppy disks or CD-ROMs
already, or else you can downlaod the programs from various websites.
