Encarta makes taskbar disappear

I want to have Encarta on the hard disk for the convenience of not having to put the CD in the drive in order to run the pgm. I copied the files from the CD onto my D: drive where big apps like MS office reside, and chose the D drive during setup. After running setup from the HD, the taskbar disappeared. For obvious reasons I can't have this. Any clues?

2.5GHz Celeron, 1 GB RAM, 2 IDE hd's connected to SATA ports via dongles
W2k SP4, 2 DVD-combo drives on IDE ports
