Can anyone help? My friend is receiving two of every e-mail posted to
her. Is this OE6 or her server (BTopenworld)? How can we stop it?

TIA Ed

I'm assuming that this is a POP3 server.

- The POP3UIDL.DAT (IMN or OE4) or POP3UIDL.DBX (OE5+) file may be
corrupted. This is used to track previously downloaded messages when
you leave messages on a POP3 server (Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties,
Advanced). However, the file gets updated even if you aren't leaving
messages on the server. Delete the file with Outlook Express or
Internet Mail closed. (On Win2000 you need enable the display of Hidden
or System files in the folder options and XP you need to use the
advanced options to find Hidden or System files.) The next time all
mail on the server will be downloaded. But after that the file should
function correctly again.

If she is actually using OE5 rather than OE6 (verify in Help, About
Outlook Express), then this could apply:
- Outlook Express 5 Downloads Same E-Mail Message Multiple Times
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=245620
OE 5.00 has problems with leaving mail on the server when you have
multiple POP3 accounts on the same mail server. (This may be fixed in
5.01 and later.) If you use the IP address for the POP3 mail server
name in the second account, that seems to be a workaround. If you have
more than 2 POP3 accounts on a server, you can use the C:\Windows\HOSTS
file to make up alias names for the POP3 mail server that point to the
appropriate IP address.

Turn off one of these options: (2nd is best)
When starting go directly to my Inbox or Send and Receive messages at
start-up.
OE>tools>options>general tab.
