A month or so back I innocently downloaded and installed the Dogpile Search Toolbar on my stand-alone WinXP (SP2) machine. As soon as I did this virtually all my Spyware monitoring programs (MS AntiSpyware, CounterSpy,SpySweeper etc) went ballistic. I kept getting messages saying Dogpile was a really bad piece of spyware - that it was trying to install itself into my system files - and so on.
I decided to play safe and uninstall it... which I did (or thought I did) by using Add/Remove Programs. But although Dogpile no longer appears on my installed programs list I am STILL getting messages on boot-up telling me it is endeavouring to install "Dogpile Cursor Search" into my registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MenuExt.
To me this looks very much like the action of Spyware - but I would appreciate other opinions.
I would also like to know how I can get rid of whatever remnants of Dogpile that might still be hidden somewhere on my system so I don't have to deal with this problem again. Any suggestions?
