Hi I'm new here and there have probably been countless posts about this problem but I don't have the time to sift through all the threads to find a solution so I was really hoping someone could reply in a timely manner.

I bought and installed The Sims 2 a while ago on my other computer, which runs on windows 98 and does not have internet access, because my whole family uses this computer and it would take up too much room/people would probably need this one.

When I try to run the Sims 2 I get a message saying
Error: "Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate."

I downloaded directX 9.0c and put it on a disc and installed it on the other computer, and when i ran the diagnostic it said I had directX 9.0c as my latest version.

I'm not sure what to do about drivers or graphics adapters? If someone had a similar problem and/or have a solution for me that would be great

Hello Amadeo and welcome to Lockergnome!

Quote:
4. Game displays errors when starting such as "Failed to find a Direct X 9.0c compatible graphics adapter" or "Graphic Adapter failure".

This is normally caused by one of two things. Number one would be that the graphics card being used is way out of date and not capable of running the game. Number two would be that the graphics card driver being used is out of date, in this case installing the latest driver should work and as always drivers are available from the manufacturers website.

The supported video cards are:

ATI Radeon™ series (7000 or better)
VE series (see note below)
7000, 7200, 7500
8500, All-In-Wonder 8500

X300, X600, X800

NVIDIA® Quadro™ series

NVIDIA GeForce series (GeForce2 and better)
GeForce 2
GeForce 3, 3 Ti
GeForce 4, 4 Ti, MX 420, 440

GeForce 6600, 6800

Intel® Extreme Graphics

Hello ipfan and welcome to Lockergnome!

First try updating your driver from the Microsoft website, then trying reinstalling directX which can be downloaded from the Intel website.

ok well....i went to EA Games easy info and i found out that it wasn't the DirectX 9.0c beacuse it said that it was ok the only thing that is wrong is the driver thing i keep trying to dowload intel extreme graphics but i think i need a 2.0 GHz and i have 1.4 MHz so i tried to dowload different drivers but i can't seem to find it, it says i need one of these:

ATI Radeon(TM) series (7000 or better)
VE series (see note below)
7000, 7200, 7500
8500, All-In-Wonder 8500
9000, 9200, 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800
X300, X600, X800

NVIDIA(R) Quadro(TM) series
Quadro, Quadro2, Quadro4

NVIDIA GeForce series (GeForce2 and better)
GeForce 2
GeForce 3, 3 Ti
GeForce 4, 4 Ti, MX 420, 440
GeForce FX 5200, 5600, 5700, 5800, 5900, 5950
GeForce 6600, 6800

Intel(R) Extreme Graphics (see note below)
82845, 82865, 82915

If you have a non-T&L capable video card, such as Intel Extreme Graphics or Radeon VE series, then you need at least a 2.0 GHz processor.
and i can't find one Sad
this stupid game won't work!!! and it was so much fun Sad

Download this driver, uninstall your existing driver via add/remove programs in control panel, restart and then install the downloaded one.
You don't need a 2.0GHz machine to install a driver that's what EA recommend for playing the Sims 2 with an Intel graphics card.

EA Easy Info basically tells you that DirectX 9 is installed not that it's functioning correctly.

I suppose you could run the display tests in DirectX Diagnostics, click start > click run > type dxdiag > click ok > click display > click and run each test. These tests are quite basic so I myself would still reinstall DirectX.

i did that run thing and put dxdiag and its says there are no problems in each tab thing so i tried to play the game again it still said that message
"Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate."
so i don't know what else to do..... Confused
....i wanna play sims 2 already.....
