I 'used' to have a sub folder in my In Box entitled Work.....No I haven't,
which is causing me some problems! I don't remember deleting it, but my
darling children have been on the computer today so who knows? Is there any
way of recovering a folder full of career aspirations and the welfare of a
family of four? For future reference, is it possible to make folders
undeletable? I hope there is a God out there, I'll buy you a virtual pint or
its equivalent some day! |

Having looked through some of the other discussions, I think I may have a
compacting problem as I do remember clicking 'Yes' to compact OE messages
today. However I seem to have only lost the one (inevitably critical)
folder, so I am sceptical of a corrupting system and suspicious of
nimble-fingered 6 and 8 year olds. Problem remains regardless. Should I buy
DBXpress at $24.95 to find it won't work if the folder was deleted? Who has
experience of it, is it really good?

First look at the Deleted Items folder. Is there a plus [+] sign in front
of it? If so, click it and you may find your "missing" folder. If not,
click on the menu, Tools/Options/Maintenance and then Store Folder button.
Tab until the path to the store folder is highlighted, then press Ctrl+C to
copy the filepath to the clipboard. In Control Panel, Folder Options, make
sure the View tab has the choice to "Show hidden files" and click Apply
button. Now open Windows Explorer (Winkey+E) and paste the filepath from
the clipboard into the address bar and see if there is still a DBX folder
with the "Work" folder found there. If so, it may be corrupted and the
older utility, DBXtract from www.oehelp.com will do the job for you at a
reduced cost. Only $5.
Post back with your results.

Thanks Jim, but unfortunately I have already checked the Store Folder and
it's not there! Well actually there is a Work folder there, but that's just
a new one I've put there for now which has just the one email in it that I
received yesterday (267 Kb). Still open to offers therefore!!

Then before too much time elapses, and the space those deleted files occupy
on the hard drive get overwritten, you might want to invest in DBXpress and
use it to recover from disk all email messages it can find. Read about it
at www.oehelp.com and I can attest to the fact that it can be a real
lifesaver when you lose messages that are critical. Good luck.

Yep, great and I will do that, however when I try to enter where I am living
(Oman) the DBXpress purchasing pages/drop-downs don't offer me that option!
Or anywhere in the Middle East for that matter. So I can't enter my correct
address as per the details required by my card. Any ideas or work arounds
for that? I know it's not a techie question, but you may know how I can buy
DBXpress online.

The guy who created the program usually posts in here most days, within the
next hour, so no doubt he will put you right, (Steve Cochran).

Hi Peter,
PayPal has an option to supply an address or not (I forget the exact page).
You do NOT need to provide an address. Check the options. I think Oman is
on the list approved by PayPal.
If you get the program, you should immediately run the extract from disk
function before the messages, that may still be on the disk clusters, get
overwritten.
For the future make sure you do points 2 and 3 here
(www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx) and backup frequently.
Email me if you have more trouble.
cheers,
steve

Hi Steve
Thanks for your trouble first off.
I went back to PayPal but can't get beyond setting up the account as it does
require that I tell it where I live but won't let me say I live in Oman (very
irritating!). I then can't complete the card transaction, because the system
requires a country, town, post code etc within the country that I previously
stated I live in (which presumably has to match the address upon which the
card account is based) There is no Contact Us or Help option on the DBXpress
page, so I am at a loss as to what to do. All I want to do is buy DBXpress as
soon as poss. We're not all crazy fanatics in the Middle East you know, so
why the inability to enter a Middle East abode!! Sorry, that's not very PC
is it. You said I could email you - what's your address?
