You generally need to immunize after each update, Alias.
I do -

Two issues keep repeating when I scan and am not sure if I should just
include these two entries in IGNORE LIST. They are,
Microsoft.windows security center.update disable notify
Microsoft.windows security center.antivirus disablenotify
Would appreciate your thoughts.

Isn't it good practice to immunize before each scan and (before and) after
each new download of updates? H.

Right click on the detections and choose "do not flag this detection
again", or, ignore them.

I've got to ask, Dan. Why don't you ask this in an XP group? Just curious.
What that is about is you've selected the Security Centre not to bug you
about out-of-date virus defs etc. Yes, put them in the Ignore List.

Really a simple answer, Shane. I know from following this NG that most of
experts use XP but continue to hang around in order to help some of us ME
users. Like some of the others, I have both and in this particular case, it
was just as easy to click REPLY to ask my question. Also for the most part,
although I have been seeing a gradual change, the experts in ME are a lot
more thoughtful and more respectful than some that frequent the XP group.
I trust nobody was offended. Take Care

Fair enough, Dan. Though it can seem a little surreal at times. To take
offence, however, would also seem surreal, at least imo. Actually I think
your explanation accurately describes or implies what the current status of
this group is. And I think I'd like it to be independent of Microsoft, I
think we've grown apart - unfortunately most of those who come here for help
come from the MS site, so it wouldn't really be practical.
But I like the way this group has devolved - ironically except for how most
of the time these days it looks like just a board for the posting of
anti-spyware update notices. I'd like to have seen people try to teach
rather than pander to the kind of irresponsibility that makes frequent
updates of any consequence.

That's a tough one to swollow, Shane, but you probably are right, to the
extent of the learning experience which, on the other hand, should include
updating of protective software, imho. H.

I agree Shane and as a matter of fact that's how I originally got here, like
just about everybody else, probably. Had a problem and came here for advice
and really never left. I peruse everyday, hoping to pickup various tidbits
of info which may help me somewhere down the line. The other NG which has
also been fantastic is the Win 98 group, however I gave that one up last
winter when I purchased a new desktop.
I consider myself almost illiterate insofar as computers are concerned. I
have never hesitated to ask for guidance; there were many a time when I
didn't understand and the guru would get frustrated with my lack of
comprehension but when that happened, usually someone else would chime in
and help out.
There have been some pretty good experts in this group over the years. As a
matter of fact it's almost unbelievable when you stop and think how quickly
somebody jumps in, in order to share any and all information, to help solve
someone else's problem, and with no thought of compensation. The amount of
hours some of these people donate to these forums might be mystifying to
some, but it sure as hell is appreciated by people like me.

I hate to puncture anyone's balloon but ... if I had a dollar for each
infected system that had used Immunize, I, too, would be asking the
Gates Foundation to give my money away for me.
Have done countless HijackThis logs with SD Helper, TeaTimer, and
Immunized activated.
I've found that that what Spybot does best is cleaning up left over
files and registry settings after a thorough clean up of an infected system.
That's the extent to which I recommend using it.
YMMV

At least you have an opinion, Harry.
Yes, sure, but it's only important in the novice stage. The long termers -
those who tend to be labelled 'guru' - don't get malware. To fail to learn
the relative unimportance of these programs implies failing to learn Safe
Hex, ie the real meaning of it rather than picking up on it as a buzz-word.
Or, as I've implied so many times in the past, it indicates OCD. Or is it
OCR? No, it's OPEC.
I've never learnt to turf the cat off my lap and so keep making typing
errors. What is more I get this pain from reaching across at strange angles
for extended periods. I'd like to think she's trying to tell me to stop
using the bloody computer! But I fear she has little interest in that.

A conversation with you is always rewarding, Shane and for that reason alone
your presence here is invaluable.
Maybe a hint from your cat is beneficial to you, by limiting the time spent
with your pc and instead paying some attention to her.
At this stage you probably know what's best for you.
All the best to you - and your cat.
Harry.

While I agree with most of your comments about XP General Dan, there are
quite a few good ones in there as well, that being said though it has
never been as friendly as in here which is why I think most of us still
hang around <g>

You are absolutely right, Joan, there are some very good experts in the XP
General too. I didn't mean to imply that there weren't any; it's as you say,
this group is friendlier.

XP Gen, Joan has far too many self-proclaimed XP experts, MVP and
otherwise, too tough going there, I rarely even look in.
It's too bad, really.
I've been running XP for a number of years now as you know and I echo
your sentiments that this is a great NG, that's why I come back to it.
Even if it is slowly evolving into a chat room, so what
