Connecting 98 computer to XP network

Have an XP home based network using linksys router printer is connected to
this computer and there is a shared transfer folder. 2 other computers are
connected to the network router using ethernet (hardwire):

1. Windows XP64 Computer-

- can browse internet

- can see base computer & shared folder

- can see & use printer

2.. Windows 98SE computer

- can browse internet

- cannot see base computer or shared folder

- cannot see & use printer

How can I get the Windows 98 computer to see the local network?

Check personal firewalls, and the NetBT setting on all computers, and make it
consistently Enabled.

And be aware of the browser issue between Windows 98 and Windows NT (XP, Vista).

Use authenticated logon (Network Logon) on the Windows 98 computer, none
of that pressing escape to log on to the box! On the Windows 98
computer create a user account with password and create a matching
account (same name and passwssord) on the XP computer as the one on the
Windows 98 box.

Do you refer to the Network dialogue box that appears before the Windows
logon?
What are you suggesting should be entered in this box?

It doesn't seem to make any difference whatever is used as name or password,
and neither appear to be saved anywhere and don't appear in 'change
passwords'.

Create a user account on the Windows 98 box and use a password, DON'T
leave the password field blank! On the Windows XP box create a user
account with the same name and password as the one on the Windows 98 box
and grant it permissions to the shares. (Or create the account on the
W98 box with the same name and password as the one that you usually use
on the XP box, it depends on the security level that you want the W98
user to have). *DO NOT* use blank passwords on *any* user accounts in a
network environment, it may cause problems!
