When you install Win95, you have to create a user name and password. This is
used to log onto Windows.

1. How to I change the user name?
2. How do I change the password?

There is also a computer name, share names, and password for networked
shares, but those do not need to be changed.

How do I change an existing user name?
How do I change an existing password?

This is not a new installation. There is only one user, and I need to change
that user name and registered user to something shorter without spaces. Then
I need to create a new password. I need to do this for a Win98se laptop
also. They cannot both have the same user name and password. This is not the
same thing as the networking password. This is the user name and password.

Once both are changed, I can create identical user names and passwords in
the XP box so the two laptops can access the XP box. Right now, the XP box
can access the laptops but not the other way (because the Guest account is
disabled for security reasons). I do not want to use the existing 9x user
names and need to change them first.

I just went into the registry to rename each instance of the user name
manually. Then I went into the Windows directory to rename these user files:
..wab, .pwl, .acl, .arp. When I rebooted, Windows came up with the new user
name and so did the System applet in Control Panel. I deleted the .pwl file
and rebooted to create a new password. Then I created a new account in XP
with the same user name and password. Now the Win95a machine can connect to
the XP machine.
