Certain website, ones that I visit at least once a day have started becoming
unaccessible by timing out on me. I do not know if this is a browser problem
or a "time out" problem w/IE 6. Most of the time the browser simply times
out before the page can display. I followed the instructions given on a
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article but this did not fix the problem by adding
the "Receiver Timeout" as a Dword value in the registry.

I've checked everything I know to check, don't know what else to do to solve
the problem ? I've been unable to access my yahoo email acct. for days now
and many other websites as well\ - they simply time out or give the err.msg.
"this page cannot be displayed". It's one or the other, never any other err.
msg.

Please help if at all possible.

LOL to all here Smile

Hi Joy,

By any chance are you located in the South Pacific region (AU or NZ) and did
this start to occurr yesterday? If so it then it should be better by now.
Yesterday was a bad day for inet connections. My 'puter was droping off all
day.

Regards.

Hello,

I am a home office website developer. I have not been able to access my most common hosts from my home office for about a week except by proxy server.

The sites I am unable to access timeout. DNS appears to work. If I use the direct ip, they still timeout. Somehow I think I am under a targeted DoS attack.

I can connect to basically all other websites, google, ebay, msn, yahoo, your site, etc.

If I go down the road about 1/2 a mile and use my brothers internet with my laptop that will not connect to these site at my home office, I can connect there. The main difference with him is he has only static IPs.

Other people can connect to these websites I am having trouble connecting to. Thus, the ISP says not their problem, the hosting company says, not their problem. No one I have or know seems to know what to do.

My main client is threatening to go elsewhere because I can not do their work. I can not ftp, email, access the sites by browser directly. They /are or were/ my most accessed websites.

I have checked my hosts file. These are not listed.

I have replaced my router. No change.

I have and do run zonealarm personal firewall, adaware PE, spybot search & destroy, http://housecall.trendmicro.com

I am not a hacker. I have not studied it. I have been unable to solve this problem.

Please help or refer me to someone who can help.

DNS translation of sites I am unable to access at home office because of timeout (I am able to access via my brother's office 1/2 mi down road with same ISP, scinternet.net, but with static ip. I can access these sites via anonymizer proxy servers):
