Let us know what the deal is if he gets things sorted out, OK?

Well, it seemed like the easiest way to get a couple screenfuls of
info from one comupter to another. You could have found out the IP
address of the SMTP server of the dialup provider and configured your
email client with that rather than the server name, and emailed the
info to yourself, though. |

If you still need assistance...feel free to ask me...I had 95 for years
before 98. The math co-processor is basically a new CPU addition added after
the 98 release.
The DNS issue...is basically the NIC acting kinda nutty. If you have the 95
and nic disc I could walk you through some fixes...

Well....The 8086, 80286, and 80386 processors all came without
floating point ability. Compilers all provided the ability to do
floating point operations, but without the hardware support it was
slow. Intel provided 8087, 80287, and 80387 "coprocessors" that
plugged into a socket on the motherboard and provided the hardware. If
you did a lot of number crunching, shelling out for a coprocessor
could speed things up a lot.
The 80486 and 80487 were a bit different. The 80486 was a fully
functional CPU that included a floating point unit. To provide a lower
price point, Intel also sold a version of it with the FPU disabled,
that they called the 80486SX. Then they provided a "coprocessor" for
that unit so you could upgrade your machine to have an FPU. But the
80487 was a fully functional 80486 chip. When it was plugged into the
"coproc" socket on the motherboard, it would disable the 80486SX chip,
and do everything itself. The "SX" chip would take up space on the
motherboard and do nothing at all. But it had to be there. If you
removed the 80486SX from the motherboard, the computer wouldn't work.
The 487 came out in 1991.
When the Pentium chip came out in 1993, Intel gave up on coprocessors.
So by the time Win95 debuted, coprocs were a thing of the past.
