May I ask why you would want to do this? Your first problem would be to
find a suitable motherboard that has Win Me drivers, I know of none but
haven't looked very far. Increasingly less and less recent motherboards
include drivers for use with discontinued Win 9x operating systems such as
Win Me.

Depending on why you want to run Win Me on such a box you could always do
what I am doing and that is to run Win Me in a virtual machine on such a
box. I'm using Microsoft's VPC and using this have Win Me running on both
an AMD 64 3200+ and an AMD 64x2 4400+. The underlying operating system on
those boxes is however XP Pro SP2.

Hello Mike,

first of all I want to thank you for your quick response!
The reason is very simple: I want to avoid to buy XP - nothing else.
What you have written in your response to my posting, has
convinced - me more or less. I will leave ME behind and take XP.

Dietrich,

I don't think that you will go wrong by installing XP. XP is a far more
stable and solid operating system than Win Me with the one of main reasons
for someone wanting to run Win Me being that they have software that only
runs on Win 9x operating systems in which case it is more likely that they
need Win 98SE as it has real mode which was removed or rather hidden in
Win Me. The remaining Win Me users tend to be using legacy hardware that
is not particularly suited to running XP.

I hope all goes well,
