I recently got an old windows 95 laptop with a dock (compaq lte 5400) and I
want to use the eatherent jack on the dock and network it to my computer, can
this be done trhough a router if so how, if not how else can it be done. I
know almost nothing about windows 95 so please be descriptive.

Sorry it seems this post was ignored by those running all their new
systems. You could use a router/switch, ie: Linksys BEFSR-41, or
similar to allow each machine to connect to the internet, dsl or cable,
and to also see each others shares. If you are on dialup you can setup
the xp box for Internet sharing and run the 95 through it to the net.
You will need to setup permissions on your xp to allow the 95 box to
connect to any shares on that box but there is not such feature for the
other way. Once connected the xp box should have no problem seeing the
95 box. You can also look at

Good for you bringing the old box back on-line. I have a Win 3.11, 2
W95's, 2 98's, 2 Win2000's and 3 Linux boxes running together as needed
and they all play nice with each other. Old does not mean dead.
