Hi everybody,

I have an old machine bought about 9 years ago with Windows 98 installed. Just over a week ago the PS/2 mouse died. I was unable to buy a new PS/2 mouse and instead bought a Logitech USB optical mouse. When I installed the software for this mouse (which, incidentally, was not easy without a mouse), I had a problem (the details of which I can not remember clearly). As a result I had to reinstall Windows 98.

Unfortunately the screen size was now 640x480 with 16 colors, whereas
previously it had been 1024x768 with 256 colors. As some of my
applications will not work unless I have 1024x768 it was necessary to
reset the display. In the past I have done this by going to Control
Panel/Display/Settings and then moving the slider bar to the
right to 1024 by 768, clicking on Apply and rebooting. Now, however,
the slider bar defaults back to 6400 by 480 with 16 colors. If I reboot
as requested I find the size has not been changed.

The monitor is an ADI ProVista 40. The video adapter is a SiS 6326
(Silicon Integrated Systems Corporation with a 6326 chip) and the
installed driver is sis6326.drv. I have wondered whether the driver
has been corrupted. However, as the machine is an old one, no driver
CDs are available, so I'm down to the Windows CD (which does not seem
to include this driver) and whatever the Net offers.

Is there anybody who can tell me how to get my desired settings?

Thanks,

OldHand.

Hello OldHand and welcome to Lockergnome!

You should be able to download the driver from the SIS website.

http://www.sis.com/download/agreement.php?url=/download/

Go to the site > accept the agreement > click Windows 98 or Windows 98 SE (depending on the version of Windows 98 you have) > Click GPU graphics drivers > click SIS6326 series GPU > click go > choose your download location and click download now.

Once it's downloaded you'll need to unzip it and then install them.
