there are a couple of ways of doing this
1) In windows Explorer (in My computer) go to C:\Documents and Settings.
Then right click on this folder. then select search. where it say enter
"All or part of the file name" put in either Notepad or Excel. then press
search. when the searcxh returns look in the type column for a shortcut.
the shortcut need to be copied a put into the corrrected folder.
Then paste the shortcut for excel into
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Microsoft Office
Notepad should be put into the accessory directory.
You can also put these shortcuts any place you want.
Notepad should be pasted into the accesory directory.
2) If you can't find the shortcut you arre goingg to have to generate one.
do a search in the directory C:\Program Files for EXCEL. When the EXCEL.EXE
(application type) is found right click on EXCEL.EXE. select create
shortcut. Then copy shortcut to correct location a sttate in 1 above
Notepad.exe is in the Windows directory on the C:\ folder. It is called
something like WINNT or WINXP. Search in the windows directory for Notepad.
when the Notepad.ese (application) is ffound right click and select Create
Shortcut. Copy this shortcut to the folder C:\Documents and Settings in the
appropriate directtory.

Another way:
Windows start button|Search
search for
excel.exe
When you find it, right click on it (on the righthand side window)
send to
desktop (create shortcut)
And do the same for
notepad.exe
If you want them on the desktop, you're done (rename them if you want, though).
But you can drag those shortcuts where you want--including over the start menu.
Don't let go of that mouse button until you've found the program group you want
them in.

For settling out given complicity you may use 'how to repair Excel file'
(http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/repair_excel.html). It owns all
necessary facilities such as scans and analyses damaged excel data. It
can recover excel files after some troubles: power failures, viruses and
unexpected errors.
