I recently downloded Windows Live Mail. Now when I start my computer a
window named Microsoft opens. The window contains a folder named Search
Enhancement Pack. Within that is a folder called Choice Guard that contains
CGuard.exe.
What caused this window to open every time I start my computer? Why do I
have it? If it has always been on my computer what makes it open all the
time now.
Can I just delete it?
I have Windows XP home sp3. Still have OE on my computer as I like the
looks of it better. In the last month I have locked up this computer four
times. Guess I need to buy a new computer with Windows7. My current one is
seven years old.

This is strictly speculation on my part, gleaned from what you stated above:
Microsoft Live Mail is probably attempting to load. Since the path to
the startup item isn't in quotes, the load crashes at the first
Microsoft folder, where it can't find Microsoft Live Mail. If you run
Regedit and search (Ctrl/F) for "C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail",
you'll probably find that it isn't in quotes as shown above. (Press F3
to continue the search.) Modify the entry to enclose the path and
filename in quotes and you shouldn't get that message again. I can't
find the name of the executable, but if it's livemail.exe you'd add that
to the path, within the quotes too. Any switch, such as -s or /s needs
to be outside of the quotes. If you find entries you suspect, please
post them here and maybe someone can help.

This is what I found:
In Windows Live Contact > Shell>Open>Command " C:\Program Files\Windows
Live\Mail\wlmail.exe" /contact:%1
In Windows Live Group > Shell>Open>Command " C:\Program Files\Windows
Live\Mail\wlmail.exe" /group:%1
As you can see both are enclosed in quotes.
I think I am going to uninstall Live Mail and see if that Microsoft window
still opens.
The folks at live mail newsgroup did'nt have anything to offer.

It was definitely windows Live Mail that caused it. I uninstalled it and
the window doesn't open now.
I'll go back to that newsgroup and see if anyone knows what is going on.
thanks.

OK, good luck.. it's also possible that a reinstall will put the correct
entries in the Startup locations and it will work properly.
