Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>security_admin (more info?)

I have recently ran across using gpedit.msc to restrict a users access to the
History.

I was wondering if someone could help me to figure out the exact registry
keys for the processes of:
"Disable changing Temporary Internet Files settings",
"Turn off 'Delete Browsing History' functionality",
"Disable 'Configure History'", and
"Prevent the deletion of temporary Internet files and cookies".

These can be found by going to:
gpedit.msc,
User Configuration,
Administrative Templates,
Windows Components, and
clicking on Internet Explorer.

I would like the actual registry keys so that I can make a registry key to
change them without having to go to gpupdate every time I want to set a
computer that way.

Rather than having us do your work for you, I bet you'd get good results
using your favorite search engine to get the info you need.

I have looked.
Every path that I have found so far has led to a dead end or had no change
when I changed the statuses from enabled, disabled or not configured.

Any other ideas?

Thank you for your commonsense smart remark, but I had some reasonable people
help me out on the Windows XP General Discussion Board.

And quit multi-posting.

Yeah, this ain't your best friend's mesage board.
This is microsoft.
I was seeking technical support and could not find it on this one so I went
to another one.
It's as simple as that.

I was able to get help that was VERY useful on the Basic board and all I've
gotten here are smart comments and critics of multiposting.

Now which sounds more like Technical support?

And quit multi-posting.

If you are under the impression that this is an official "technical
support" area, then you are sadly misinformed.

This is a P2P area.

The reason you didn't get the smart ass replies in your other post was
because you didn't crosspost properly.

Correct. It's a usenet group of many people who've never met. This is
simply a peer group.

> This is microsoft.

No, it's not microsoft. It's just volunteers offering to help others.
When you piss off the people trying to help you, you often lose many of
the ones that could best help you. Multiposting is one way to do that.

> I was seeking technical support and could not find it on this one so

No, you've been back and forth. Learn how to Cross-Post and you can get
simultaneous information from multiple groups all available in any one
of those groups - no going from group to group checking answers.

It's that simple.

"Basic board? Whatever that is. You'll get the same sort of responses
anytime you multi-post instead of cross-post. And if it was "VERY
useful", why are you still posting more? To me that would imply you got
the information you needed.

Your multiposting hadn't bugged a few people yet as originally you
hadn't done it. Now it's becoming pervasive as people are having to
trip over your posts in more than one group. It's a great way to not
get responses. If you simply switched groups, then you should have said
so. In which case you'd have been told you should learn to cross-post
because it makes it so much easier and faster for everyone. You could
even have added a crosspost to your original thread and kept it all
together in one place. You still could, as long as you used a sufficient
explanation of why you're doing it.

How & why to Post to more than one group:

No, the question is, Now who sounds like a closed mind to accepting good
advice and bitching when they get it, thereby limiting their source of
responders?

> And quit multi-posting.

Right: Use cross-posting instead.
