How to display the clipboard

Not sure if I should be asking this question in the Office newsgroup or not,
but I thought I would start here first.

Whenever I use CTRL C to copy anything, an info balloon appears above the
system tray in the status bar to state that x of 24 clipboard items have
been collected.

What I want to know, is how can all the contents of this clipboard be
displayed (shortcut keys would be preferable as I use them a lot) so that I
can pick and choose from the copied data I want.

I know that the clipboard can be displayed in a task pane in Word (or other
Office applications for that matter), but I do not want to have to open up
Word to simply paste text into Notepad or IE (for example). I don't want to
just to CTRL V as this will only paste in the last copied data item.

There must be an easy way to do this.

I think I may have answered the question myself. It would appear that what I
have been seeing with the info balloons is from the Office clipboard. There
is an option to have this displayed in the system tray, but if you double
click on the icon, it won't display anything if an Office application is not
already open.

Does XP have any other generic multi item clipboard, or is it only the
Office one that is available without third party apps.

Windows Clipboard (clipbrd.exe) holds one item at a time. That item may
only be one period or a whole books worth of text. Or a graphics file, the
contents of a folder, an mp3 file or whatever, but only one item at a time.

There are two different clipboards.

The Office Clipboard is related to the system Clipboard in the following
ways:

* When you copy multiple items to the Office Clipboard, the last item you
copy is always copied to the system Clipboard.
* When you clear the Office Clipboard, the system Clipboard is also cleared.
* When you use the Paste command, the Paste button, or the shortcut keys
(CTRL+V), you paste the contents of the system Clipboard, not the Office
Clipboard. ]]
