Yes, there is an error ID 7023 in the event viewer:
The Computer Browser service terminated with the following error:

This operation returned because the timeout period expired.

Install MS hotfix:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;889320

Or enable Windows Firewall.

Peter,
Thanks for this information. It nails my problem right on the head.
However, it appears as though I will have to pay Microsoft for the fix
because it does not appear as a downloadable hotfix. Enabling Windows
Firewall is out of the question because it is not compatable with my third
party firewall. Unless you mean to enable it temporarily.
Do you know how I can get a copy of that hotfix (889320)? I have an OEM copy
of XP MCE2002. Would HP have this hotfix?

HP? How did you get HP into this?
I will try to find that hotfix for you.

HP is the manufacturer of both of my computers so I assume that any support
for the OEM OS would come thru them.

UPDATE>>>>>I contacted Microsoft and told them I was in need of a
hotfix(kb889320) and they sent it to me via E-mail with no questions asked.
It was a painless process and took a total of 9 minutes from the time I
placed the call until the time it arrived at my inbox. I unzipped the file
and installed it and there is joy in Mudville again.
Thanks again for your help and expertese.

Hey,

Is there any chance anyone has that hotfix around that could email it to me? I have a server that is doing the same thing. Thanks!
