Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>device_driver>dev (more info?)

Hi,

I manufacture a USB MIDI class device that works on many different PCs
running XP and MACs running OSX, but it does not work on 3 customer
machines that are all Intel Duo dual cores running XP. I have found
only one post on the web with the same issue with USB MIDI class
devices other than ours.

like here:
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsxp.device_drive...ev/brow

But I have not been able to find a solution.

The device is found by the OS and is installed normally. It appears as
a USB composite device and as a USB Audio device, just like it does on
all other XP systems. The problem is that it is not installed as a
MIDI device in XP.

One customer was able to get our USB MIDI device to work after a clean
re-install of XP, but it stopped working after they installed the extra
drivers/ updates from the OEM disk.

systems with the problem so far:
1. Desktop Intel PD 805 Dual Core (2.66 Ghz ), motherboard is Abit NI8
SLI
2. Unknown Acer dual core laptop
3. Acer Aspire 5672 WLMi laptop

Can anyone suggest how I can get in touch with MS directly to solve
this?

thanks
Mike

I'm also having this problem and have been searching for a solution for
a while. Have you had any luck?

My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5670 Core Duo and my controller is an
Alesis Photon X25.

I have this exact same problem!!!!! So glad I found this post, hope
someone can really find an answer.

I have a Toshiba Laptop with Windows Media edition installed on it.
It's
the Satellite A105-S4134. I am a music teacher and I am trying to use a
MIDI keyboard with my laptop but I can't seem to get it to function with
my music composition software (Sybellius).

Here's what I did: I inserted my USB cable into my keyboard which has a
USB port on it and then inserted it into my laptop. I then powered on
the
keyboard and Windows did it's typical "new device detected" deal. It
then
automatically installs the driver and calls it a "USB Audio Device."
I'm not
sure if that's right because it is a MIDI device... Anyway, after that
the
software program I use tells me that it does not detect any MIDI
devices.
I've looked over the softwares manuals, tutorial vidoes, everything, it
is
NOT the software program.

Here's what I'm thinking:
a.) My sound card doesn't support MIDI input (I called Toshiba about
this
and they just did the typical, "lets see if your sound card is
working..."
>< I don't know how to tell if it does or not.
b.) Windows MCE is no good for this and I need XP (easy fix because my
workplace offers this to me for free, yay for me!)
c.) The wrong driver is installed. If this is the case, I have no idea
how
to change this and would appreciate some explanation on how to install
and
find the appropriate MIDI driver. I already did the "update driver"
option and windows said this is the latest Driver.
d.) I guess it could be the processor but I really wasn't think that
was the conflict.

Someone please help us and reply to this post!

Hello all,
I'm developing a USB MIDI class device too. It is still not in production
as I got exactly the same issue.
My device is working fine on VISTA and many XP PCs but is failing on others.

It was not easy to diagnose as I was developing on a dual core and was
searching in the "XP direction" instead of thinking about this dual-core
issue.
More and more of my customers will buy a dual core and will fall into this
issue.

I checked many ways of overcoming this, spend much valuable time looking at
my USB
descriptors - My first reaction is always to think that I'm wrong - and came
to the
conclusion that it was a Microsoft issue.

I'm contacting Microsoft now to get a fix.

I will report if succesfull.

Your post was most helpfull as it pointed me in the good direction.

Thanxs for it,

Thierry

Hello all,

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 Dual Core laptop running XP Pro, and I am trying to set up a M-Audio Keystation 49e MIDI controller to run with MyOrgan (a midi organ playing software).

I have the same problems as you guys, XP installs the keyboard as "USB Audio Device", not as a midi device. I think a first step towards a solution is that you have to force XP to use the manufacturer's drivers, not the Microsoft generic "usb audio device" drivers.

I did the following: first I downloaded the drivers from M-Audio, and installed them. Then I go to the device manager (control panel->system->hardware->device manager), I uninstalled the USB Audio Device (in Sound, video and game controllers).

Then I use "Add new hardware" and I manually choose M-Audio's drivers (not Microsoft's USB audio device). First it installs a "Keystation 49e USB driver". Then it starts again automatically and installs a "Keystation 49e MIDI driver".

Unfortunately in my music software (MyOrgan) I still can't see any MIDI input device (so I'm even more puzzled), but maybe it'll work in your case, I have no idea.

I had the exact same problem with the same Toshiba computer ! I updated
the Realtek 97 AC '97 soundcard from the Realtek website and after that
Windows recognised the Midi devices. Hope this helps.

I'm having similar problem. I've got a USB <-> MIDI cable to connect my YAMAHA sound module. It's working with my TOSHIBA (xp sp2 home) perfectly. But the cable is not properly recognized by my desktop (xp sp2 prof), i.e. USB Audio Device is detected. But no MIDI device is listed in "MIDI playback" under Audio devices.

Based on the results I've found on net, this is a well know issue in xp. Unfortunately, I still haven't found any solution. Also tried updating Realtek 97 AC '97 driver as suggested here. It didn't help in my case.

If there is no other solution I might have to try with clean xp installation Sad

Hi Guys,

I was having a very similar problem with two machines. Found this post on another forum and it worked straight away on one of my machines...yet to try it on the other. I've left in references to the author as it was solution for me.......Hope it works for you

The Problem is really caused by Logitech Webcam
i do not know if it works if i install it again, i wont !!!!
FADERBOX IS GREAT !!!!!

I found a fix that worked for me and I hope it works for anyone else experiencing the same issue. I had to Manually delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry values. (maybe only one exists at your place)

To Manually delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry values, follow these steps:

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
START > RUN > (Type) REGEDIT (and hit ENTER)

2. Locate the UpperFilters and LowerFilters value under the following key in the registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

3. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

Now you have to UNINSTALL THE USB AUDIO DEVICE, UNPLUG IT, AND REPLUG IT AGAIN

VOILA !!!! WORKING !!!!
PS, somehow u have to Use the Emulated USB AUDIO DEVICE Drivers

PS2: you can listen to my tracks on 123audio.de ( http://www.123audio.de) Smile
everything is downloadable for free in full length, if you do not make money
with it, its released under CREATIVE COMMONS License

That's genius; thanks to you and all the others that posted on this
forum. I'll never buy a logitech webcam again!

Thanks again! :D

Hi all, is the problem definately the logitech webcam, I bought a midi
to usb converter on ebay and can't use it with my electronic drums, I
have a dell dual core windows xp media center edition PC and I DONT have
a WEBCAM. Is the upper and lower registry thing your supposed to delete
just the name of the string bcos I don't see either in my registry under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro
l\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

ALL I SEE IS

default reg sz sound video and game controllers
class reg sz media
enum prop pag reg sz Mmsys.cpl media proppageprovider
icon reg sz 3004
Installer 32 reg sz Mmsys.Cplmediaclassinstaller

Is there anything I can do or delete to fix this problem ??. I know
nothin bout this I got to this page via google. Is windows xp media
center a problem too ?. The device shows up under usb outputs in cubase
and windows, sounds and audio devices under midi playback as usb [2]. I
want it to show up as a midi input or at least an input. I'd really
appreciate any advice.

Old 8/21 post, no answers--so--
You are likely going to need to contact the OEM for the MIDI/USB adapter.
The adapter driver is one issue, and the applications software another.
I have used both Yahama and Voyetra Midi adapters (Active USB/MIDI cables)
without a major problem.
The Voyetra adapter seems to be discontinued, unfortunately. That's a shame,
since it does work with Win 7.
(Driver included in Win 7)
