Quite a while ago someone was messing with the wallpaper on the screen and
centred it. It now has a boarder of about 1 inch wither side of the main
window.
I've tried expanding the wallpaper but that makes no difference.
If anyone could give any advice I'd be extremely greatful - I've tried
everything. |

On the bottom of your monitor you have some controls...either buttons or
wheels....use those to expand the image to fill the screen.

Have you tried:
A) Seeing if you have the same problem with another wallpaper?
B) Updating the drivers for your video card to see if that resolves the
problem?

Your best bet would be to go to your computer manufacturers website.
Using mine as an example:
I go to HP's website, from there I do a search for my computer model in the
search bar within the website. Your computer model should be printed
somewhere on the front of your machine. If it's not there then look on the
booklets that came with your computer (but it should be somewhere on your
PC)
So I put in zv6233nr and press search (which I can either press Enter or
click the double arrow button which performs the search).
There are 2 areas that come up with results - one is quick links - the other
is the regular search results.
The quick links displays the main links pertinent to my computer. The search
results contain everything about it.
Choose the section that says Software and Driver Downloads. (there should be
something similar for other manufacturers sites)
Next for mine they have a section to choose the operating system, so I
choose XP
Then look for the entry that says Graphics Driver or similar (might say
display driver), click the link, agree to anything that needs to be agreed
to, download the program, run the update program, and restart the computer.
You are now done with the driver update.

Is the 'Position' drop-down on the 'Desktop' tab functioning? Or is it grayed out?

What do you mean by expanding it? Is the wallpaper mode set to "stretch"?

folks I have the same problem, that damn 1" of black background behind my
wallpaper. I've tried to fix this for months now.
I have tried all the above ideas too to no avail. Something no one has said
yet is Windows Classic View, is that related? I use Windows Classic view. It
is very annoying.

I suggest you put the picture into your graphics program, and enlarge
the picture to match the screen resolution. Or, change the wallpaper
picture to one that has the same resolution as the monitor screen. I/
E, monitor set to 1024x768, and picture 640x480 equals a black border.
That should fix it.

If you use wallpaper 'stretched' it should fit. If it doesn't, there are
two possible reasons why it may not:
1. the picture itself has a black border..
2. the monitor viewing area needs to be adjusted using the controls on the
monitors front panel
