I have Microsoft Windows XP professional.

How can I find out what applications are being loaded when my PC
starts?

If I go to Control Panel/Add or Remove programs and remove one of the
unwanted programs that are being loaded at Start-Up, do I also need to
edit the Start Up file so Start Up won't have a problem when it
doesn't find the removed program?

Go to start, run, type in msconfig, select startup tab. here you can see all programs that are loaded during start up. simply uncheck the ones you do not want to load at startup. no need to uninstall in case you need the program after booting up.
