Fax Software

Hello,

We have a network with XP machines. We currently use WinFax Pro (multi-user
version) to receive and forward incoming faxes. We also use it to send faxes
from a couple workstations. The problem is that we have constant trouble
with the software. I've tried every tweak under the sun to get it to work
consistently. Sometimes it will for a couple days, and then without warning,
it will either freeze during an incoming fax or lose the modem, etc.

Is there a better fax software that someone would recommend? It would have
to handle receiving and forwarding incoming faxes, as well as faxing from
other networked workstations. We really need a more consistent solution.

hello, im tring to use a fax machine ONLY for the the purpose of copying my
printer broke so i have a fax that has a copier is it possiable to use it for
coping papers documents?

I'm a little uncertain of your intent. If you merely want to copy a
paper document just use the fax/copier's copy function.

If you want to use the fax/copier as a substitute for a printer or
scanner you will need a combination fax/modem on your computer. Such
devices WERE common when more computer users were using the DIAL UP
modem function of the combination boards. Since so many people now use
broadband, computer manufacturers now usually omit the combination
fax/modem and instead install Ethernet Network Interface Cards (NICs) or
the equivalent circuitry on the computer's motherboard. NICS don't
normally include FAX capability. Even if you have a fax/modem in the
computer you will probably need a separate phone line for each device.

If instead you had a Multi Function Device (MFD) it would have a port
for connection directly to the computer and could serve as Fax machine,
copier, scanner AND printer. Color capabilities for scanning and
printing functions vary depending on model. Fax is normally 200 DPI
black and white.
