Before someone mentions it, I have already checked the Vista groups for
several weeks now and apparently this is something that is not popping
up with the beta/RC. Smile

When I connect from my XP Pro workstation at work to my Vista home
system it connects OK but then the screen freezes. It will let me select
items either with the keyboard or mouse for a few seconds and then
nothing updates for 30-34 seconds. This has been pretty consistent. I
reduced the bandwidth stuff under the client (we have a T1 at work and I
have broadband at home) but nothing helps. I also checked the event logs
on both machines with no indication of what is happening. I created a
VPN connection and could connect from work to home but then Remote
Desktop would not let me login to either the internal IP or computer
name. I do it this way in reverse all of the time from home to work.

As a side note, I cannot ping beyond my home Netgear RT314 router with
the Vista system (IP or name addresses). I can ping within my home LAN.
I can also ping the WAN with a home laptop XP Pro system through the
router. Could this be related to the RD issue? I am thinking there is a
conflict with the 5 yr old router and Vista. I did disable autotuning as
someone suggested in the Vista general group but there was no change.
The strange part is there are no issues with web browsing with Vista...

Thanks,
Dave

This could be code with troubleshooting loops still in it - and nothing
more.

Trouble with unreleased products should be reported - of course - but to the
correct areas. And I wouldn't expect a 'fix' to be released before the
actual final product is. =)

I have not seen that issue. What I have seen is that a Vista standard user
is not able to login to an XP Pro box using RDP. For some reason I can only
access my XP Pro boxes if I am an administrator on my Vista box. Note that I
am currently running Pre-RC1, build 5536. I will installing RC1 tomorrow and
will retest this...

It has me stumped. When I diagnose the Vista network connection (in both
Beta 2 and now Pre RC1) it is either no problems found or an error
unable to contact to remote DNS server. The DNS problem doesn't explain
why I can't ping using IP addresses. I am thinking about bypassing the
router and connecting directly to the cable modem to troubleshoot some
more.

RC1 fixed my issue with not being able to log onto an XP Pro box from a
Vista box using RDP and as a standard user...

I am DL RC1 right now. Found the link in the Vista general group so will
see if it helps...

Let me give you my problem:

I am trying to access my Vista (RC1 build 5600) box remotely and it
keep acting like it's not there. I try to ping it via the IP address
and still nothing. However, I use the name of the machine and it shows
the correct IP but still nothing.

I go into Vista and notice that the firewall is not turned on. I try to
start the service but it keeps giving me an error #1297:

"A privilege that the service requires to function properly does not
exist in the service account configuration. You may use the Services
Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in (services.msc) and the Local
Security Settings MMC snap-in (secpol.msc) to view the service
configuration and the account configuration."

I turned off the UAC so I am always an admin, so what gives? Any ideas?

I had the same problem when using an XP laptop tp access a Vista desktop.

Running the following from a command line has sorted it out:

netsh interface ip set subinterface "Wireless Network Connection 2" mtu=1500 store=persistent
