Hi

I am using Windows XP SP2 home edition.

When I go into Startup via MS Config there are four items ticked which I do
not want.
The first three relate to programs which have been removed as prescribed and
are no longer on the computer but are still there in STARTUP and with the
little box ticked.

ITEM COMMAND

Tcm c:\programs files\the cleaner\tcm.exe

DkIcon c:\prog files\executive software\diskeeper\dkicon.exe

gcasServ c:\prog files\microsoft antispyware\gcasServ.exe

dumprep 0 –k %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 –k

all the above are located in the registry at:
[[HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run

As I said they relate to programs that I have removed from the computer.
When I de-tick them in STARTUP and then go into the registry and find them at
the location indicated, I delete them and the lines of entries do disappear.

However when I next go into the STARTUP the items are still there and are
again Ticked in the small box.

When I go back into the registry and go to the same location, all the items
as above, that I had deleted, are back.

None of these do in fact show in Explorer because presumably they do not
exist. So why can’t I get rid of them in both STARTUP and the REGISTRY. it
was my understanding that if I deleted a line in the Registry it had gone
forever!!

I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out what is going wrong and why I
am unable to get rid of these once and for all. I have even done a chkdsk to
see if it would correct any problems but none reported.

Some help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Archived from groups: per prev. post (more info?)

Leave msconfig in a "Normal" startup and go to the "Run" key mentioned and
delete the four values from the right-hand pane.
