When I click on my C:-drive icon the C:\ folder opens, but it always takes forever and a day (well - about 40 seconds) until that window becomes responsive. Any idea what the OS is doing during that time or what could cause this?

The only thing special I noted in the C:\ folder is, that it - for whatever reason - has a musical note as background (same as in the \My Documents\My Music-folder). Could that have something to do with those delays when opening it? What does that note indicate, anyway? And who/what controls what folders have that background?

Michael, do you share your music online? If yes, you may have picked
up a virus or malware. Rt click the Taskbar and select
Task Manager>Processes. Then open the C: drive. Look in Processes for
any showing a large percentage figure other than idle.
Post back here with info.

I know this is way late but turn off indexing on all drives in services.
Get Process Explorer (free) and Auto Runs and File Monitor (also free
both).

You have my permission to use Google to find these small and free
progies.

MaximumPC magazine often has progs like this on the included CD.
