Nusrmgr.cpl Problem

Hi..

I have just noticed that my User Accounts applet (nusrmgr.cpl) does not
display properly. It's missing a few small images and in their places is a
red-crossed placeholder.

Below is a link to a screenshot to demonstrate the problem:

I have Vista Transformation Pack v6.0 installed and thought that may be the
problem so I uninstalled it but the problem persists...plus VTP has been
installed for a while and this is a relatively new problem.

Are there any 'shell' experts out there who might be able to suggest any
possible fixes please? Perhaps if I knew what .dll file the images are
stored in, I may be a little closer to solving the problem? Or does the
nusrmgr.cpl file need editing at all with ResHack?

All my other applets load ok and as far as I can tell, there are no other
obvious or similar system problems apart from this. I have no malware issues
and all anti-virus/anti-spy scans come back clean and my HJT log is clean
too. I know it's not a huge issue but it's becoming a bit of an annoyance so
I would be grateful for any help.

I tried to download the file in the first solution but it would not let me
download it, it just opened the file. When i opened it i copied it and
pasted it in notepad but it will not let me merge it. What should i do

To download the file fix_redx_useracc.reg,
right-click that hyperlink > 'Save Target As' > save to Desktop.
Then right-click that file > 'Merge'

You can use System File Checker to resolve your problem.

The normal way to restore missing or damaged files in the system32
folder is to use the System File Checker tool. Try Start, Run, type "sfc
/scannow" without quotes and hit Enter.

File Checker (Sfc.exe)

A common problem with running System Files Checker is that it requires a
CD with all the system drivers for what is currently installed. This
means that if the system has been updated from SP1 to SP2 or from SP2 to
SP3 the user no longer has a current CD. The solution is to carry out a
process known as slipstreaming to put the original and the update
together on a single CD, which can then be used. I personally have never
attempted this but that would be the way forward.

Gerry,
System File Checker does NOT need all the updates to be on the cd.
The original cd is file as there is a vale SFC looks for in the registry
called:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup]
"ServicePackCachePath"="C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles"

....and only uses the cd to check the version numbers of the files against
those of the system32 folder AND the ones in the ServicePackCache and then
uses those.

I suggest you reconsuder your response. When the system asks for the CD if
SP3 is installed and the CD is SP2 System File Checker will not proceed.

I can't speak for everyone's computer, but I have SP3 Installed on my XP Pro
(SP2) installation. When I try running SFC /SCANNOW it asks for the cd
although I know that the files are now different and copies of the new
Service Pack files are stored on my computer at the location
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 and the SFC Registry value:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup]
"ServicePackCachePath"="C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles"

....points to it. After putting the cd into the drive (with files that are
now out-of-date on it!) SFC runs! How odd, but that is what it does. It
seems it wants to take a look at the original files before comparing them
with the service pack files (cached on the hard-drive) before it will run.

I'm not the only one that thinks this. If your newsreader goes back that

In general terms I gave up recommending System File Checker because of
problems trying to use it on my own computer after updating to SP2. I felt
it unwise to recommend it to other users if I could not get it to work as it
should myself. Slipstreaming is the answer but that is another less than
easy task. It does, of course work OK if the system and CD are based on the
same Service Pack. I cannot recheck the problem because my system and CD are
now SP3.

Another reason for not recommending System File Checker is that I suspect
most driver problems relate to third party not system drivers. Many of the
problems I try to help with involve Stop Errors, which are often linked to
hard to identify third party drivers.
