Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>customize (more info?)

How do I format/initialize a USB memory stick so that I can boot from
it and install Windows XP (copied onto the memory stick from an XP CD).

The memory stick is recognized by my laptop as a USB hard drive. I have
tested with HP's storage tool and formatted the stick with the Win98
system files copied, but with no joy - it says Disk I/O error.

Installing from a RIS server works perfect, but I'd like to have an
extra installation option in environments where I can't bring my RIS
server. And using a memory stick would be faster - and a lot more
versatile when upgrading the driver library or the SIF-file - than a
CD.

Klaus
