| I switched to Windows Live Mail as Outlook Express was no longer supported,
but now I am getting every five minute a message that Outlook Express wants
to compact messages.

However, Outlook Express still wants to compact messages each time I launch
the Live Mail. Of course, it is much better than earlier, when it wanted to
do this every few minutes.

Is WLMail your default Mail Client now? Do you still use OE?
You'll find support for Windows Live Mail (WLMail) in this public newsgroup:
microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop
Via the web-interface:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/list/en-us/default.asp...g=micro
Via your newsreader:

[Please quote this entire post when you reply. Thank you.]
Outlook (OL) and Outlook Express (OE) are not the same application. I asked
if you still used OE?
If you don't see if removing access to OE makes any difference:
Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Add/Remove Windows Components | OE
(uncheck).
Make sure that WLMail is set as your default Mail Client in Set Program
Access and Defaults as well as in IE Tools | Internet Options | Programs.

It never does appear in "Add/Remove Programs". It appears in the sidebar
option to "Add/Remove Windows Components". As stated by PA Bear.

Were you looking in Add/Remove Programs or Add/Remove Windows Components?
QED: In your reply on 12 Sept-09, you told us that clearing the checkbox for
OE in CONTROL PANEL | INDEXING OPTIONS | MODIFY corrected the problem. Is
that checkbox rechecked now?
QED: Does the behavior persist if you uninstall Windows Desktop Search via
Add/Remove Programs?

And then AFAIK that only removes ACCESS to it - it doesn't actually
uninstall OE because it's an integral part of IE6.... |

I can confirm this...I had been removing the checkmark for OE thinking I
was uninstalling the program, but it apparently it's just removing
access as the dialog states in add/remove windows components. You can
confirm after unchecking by going to run and typing msimn.exe. You'll
continue to get windows updates for OE as well.
I started to look into this a little more when a user called in saying
he was getting the message and I knew I had 'unistalled' OE on his
laptop and it in fact had never even been used. Hopefully disabling
indexing of OE in desktop search will take care of the issue. |
