IE6 closes itself right after opening. OS is XP SP2.

Have you tried reinstalling it?
Scan for spyware using adaware as well.

Just FYI - the Microsoft way to repair IE6 is to uninstall/reinstall SP2.

You also may want to try the free program Dial-A-Fix from DJLizard ( http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix )
