I need help... I have a new PC... and I keep getting BSOD errors. Sad

Here's my pc specs:
-Intel dual core 2.0ghz
-ASUS motherboard (forgot the model)
-200gb SATA hardisk
-Sony DVD-RW
-Sony Floppy Disk
-512mb of RAM
-256mb 128bit PCI Express graphics adapter

Here's my problem... my PC is misbehaving terribly... I already changed my SATA cables many times for my hardisk and tried re-inserting my memory card many times but I still keep on getting the BSOD error. Sometimes it says atapi.sys error or ntfs.sys and some driver errors... i tried fixing it many times... reformatted my computer countless times but still get the same problem... can anyone help me? Sad

two things......

Since you didn't say, I'm assuming that you're running XP of some form.
Right? Then 512megs of ram is only half the recommended minimum, and 1/4 of what it takes to get XP up and running like its supposed to.

XP will usually run OK on just one gig of ram, but it runs considerably better on two gigs.

Next, atapi refers to the CD/DVD drive, not the hard drive.

Disconnect your CD drive(s) and see how things work.

BSOD's come from driver errors more often than not.

Unplug the data cable from your motherboard to the CD drive at the mobo end, pull the power plug from the CD drive and see what happens.

Good Luck,

I already tried doing that, but I still keep getting BSOD error. sometimes i just leave my pc running and playing some music on winamp and it suddenly stops and I get a BSOD error again, or if i'll open some programs or games too, and if i'll try to copy some files from the disk. I tried reformatting my pc and during the windows xp installation, my computer hanged and I got BSOD error again Sad i really don't know what to do with it anymore. It would be easy if I were there, but I can't see what you see or try things like I could sitting in front of the PC.

You could even try using System Restore to go back to a time before the BSOD's started.
I NEVER get BSOD's so I don't have a lot of experience with them. Rolling Eyes

RUN MSCONFIG and in the Startup folder, DE-Select every program from that startup list that you don't need to run your computer.

That's at least a place to start.

Have you done a virus scan or Spyware scan?

yeah, I tried everything, i removed the cables and put them on again, scanned for viruses using an updated norton antivirus. But I guess the problem is with my hardisk... Sad maybe it's a deffective hardisk. I tried replacing my hardisk with an 80gb IDE hardisk and there was no problem with it, but when I tried putting back the 200gb SATA hardisk, it's crushing again Sad
