This might be a stupid question, but when I put a blank cd-r disc into my
drive, it is not recognised by the computer. The green light flashes a bit
and then message "put blank disc into Drive D" appears as though there is
nothing in there. Can you help an ignorant, but frustated user ?
I have an HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM gdr8164b installed on a HP Compaq dx2200 MT. By
the way it plays and opens discs with data on already. Can I actually back up
data using this drive?
Thanks v. much
Nick

A hl-dt-st- dvd is not a brand name,hp usually installs liteonit hardware,try
R.clicking the device, properties, see what brand it really is..If liteonit
go to
thier web site, locate youre dvd player, locate the firmware download for it
& install.99% of liteonit drives need the firmware update..

I can see it's a DVD ROM and CD-ROM but can find no evidence it's also a CD
Burner.

HOW to tell: Look at the front of the CD drive: Does it say something
like: Rewritable, or RW on it? IF not it's unlikely to be a burner.

Indications are, however, that your drive does not support cd creation.
