Does anyone know of a reliable computer store in Ottawa, Canada? Right now, I
have Windows XP, but this computer is old and planning on getting a new one.
I have my own XP disc and am allowed to use it as long as it is only used on
one computer (which will be the new one) according to Microsoft.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, no, I can't help with that.

Note that what you say is correct is you XP CD is a *retail* version,
but not if it's an OEM version. An OEM version's license ties it
permanently to the first computer it's installed on, and it may never
be moved to another.

Even if it was an OEM (System Builder) version, it could have been
moved without incident if it hadn't been activated within the previous
120 days.

"Legally"?... not according to the EULA. However...

I didn't say "can not," I said "may not." Doing what you suggest is a
violation of the license agreement.

Yes, there are many illegal things that are possible to do and
sometimes get away with them. Recommending them to others, especially
when you do it publicly, as you just did here, is not a wise thing to
do.

Purchasing one. Future Shop has some but they all have Vista in them, which I
do not want.

Unless you go through OEM business channels or go to a small store where
they build to order with your OS of choice, you will find little else..

Currrently Vista is the default o/s, soon to be replaced by Win7, so unless
you have some overwhelming reason to remain with WinXP seems kinda a
backward step. I guess it wont be long before new apps become compatible ony
with Vista on.
In any case you will only be saving pennies by buying a PC without an o/s.
Maybe bettter to find a PC suitable for your usage, then check whether the
manufacturer supplies winxp drivers for their hw

The owner of Orleans Computers is a very amenable guy, and he has a good
selection of stuff on display. He has a better attitude than many in the
industry..
