I downloaded an update to xp and now, whenever I boot or restart, it asks me to click on myself to go further. Before, when I booted or restarted, it would boot directly up without this step and go directly to my normal desktop.

Can anyone tell me how to bypass this like I did before?

Thanks

See if this helps.

////////////////////////////
Bypass The Windows XP Log On Screen
To make logon an unattended process:

Click [Start] [Run] and type
control userpasswords2
Click [OK]
The [User Accounts] Property Sheet displays.
On [Users] tab, clear the [Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer] check box.
Click [Apply].
Enter a user name and password that should be used to logon automatically in the dialog box that appears.
Click [OK].
Go to [Control Panel] [User Accounts] [Change the Way Users Log On and Off].
Uncheck [Use the Welcome Screen] and [Use Fast User Switching]

Thank you very much for your very detailed procedure!

I am a technical report writer myself, along with doing financial and some computer work, and thought your response was excellent!

As much as I would like to take the credit; I cannot. It was the result of a Google search. I copied and pasted.
Would like to know if you tried it and if it worked. If so, perhaps it will come in handy some day for someone on the forum.
